A E2Language alternative, compared honestly
E2Language is not really the same kind of product as ours. It is an online test preparation school: fixed length course packages with live classes, one to one tutorials on the higher tiers, and Writing and Speaking marked by qualified teachers rather than by software. That makes the comparison unusually clean. If what you need is a person who can read your essay, hear you speak and answer a follow up question, E2 sells that and we do not. If what you need is unlimited cheap re-marking of your own work and a published measurement of how far the marking sits from its reference bands, that is the side we are on. Everything below was checked on the date shown and links to the page it came from.

What E2Language does well
This section is here because a comparison written by one side is worth nothing without it. Everything below is something we think they genuinely do well, and in two places better than we do.
- Named, credentialed human teachers who actually read your work. Seven are named on the IELTS page, six with qualifications listed, including a DELTA, a PhD in Applied Linguistics, an MA and a Master of TESOL, and E2 says all of its IELTS teachers are ex-IELTS examiners or experienced IELTS trainers. We cannot match this. Our two DELTA-qualified teachers are named on the site, but they do not personally read your essay. E2's do.
- Live classes are included in every paid package rather than sold as an add on: 25 on Express and Express+, unlimited on Bronze and above. We offer nothing like this.
- One to one 45 minute private tutorials on Bronze, Silver and Gold. A teacher who can hear your Speaking, interrupt you and answer the follow up question is a different kind of help from any automated band, and for some candidates it is the thing that moves the score.
- Marking against the official IELTS band descriptors with feedback returned within 48 hours, stated twice on the IELTS page, by people rather than software.
- A 14 day free trial on any course with no credit card, plus a free sample live class. That is a longer trial than most of this market offers, and asking for no card is a genuinely user-friendly choice.
- The guarantee conditions are written down in the Terms of Use rather than only in marketing copy, so you can read exactly what you would have to do to qualify before you spend anything. Most products in this market do not publish that detail at all.
- One provider across several exams. If you switch from IELTS to PTE, OET or CELPIP, or you have not settled on which test to sit, you do not have to start again somewhere else.
- An IDP branded full four skill mock test you can buy on its own for 44.0 USD without committing to a package.
- Scale and a track record, stated on their own page as more than 2.7 million test takers taught.
Stay with E2Language if
- You learn better from a person than from software. This is the honest dividing line. If you need a qualified teacher who can hear you speak, push back and explain the same point a second way, E2Language sells that and we do not.
- You want live classes or one to one tutorials, in which case buy Bronze or above. Express and Express+ include no marked assessments and no tutorials at all, so the two cheapest packages will not give you what you came for.
- You want a human being marking your Writing and Speaking against the band descriptors within 48 hours, and you are willing to pay 185.90 USD or more to get it.
- You are preparing for PTE, OET or CELPIP as well as IELTS, or you have not decided which test to sit. One provider covering all of them is worth real money.
- You want a money-back score guarantee and you know you will finish everything it requires: all the course materials and practice tests, all the mini mock tests including the speaking appointment, and every assessment and tutorial in the package, with the refund requested inside the published 30 day windows.
- Budget is not your binding constraint and you would rather buy a taught course with a fixed end date than a cheap tool you have to drive yourself.

We re-score a fixed reference set every week and publish the mean absolute error, currently 0.438 bands, with the sample size, the method and the limits, at /quality. E2Language publishes no accuracy figure, and we make no judgement about their marking: they use people, not software, and we cannot measure someone else's marking any more than they can measure ours. Our own figure has a limitation we state on the same page: the reference bands are ours, not a certified examiner's, so it is not a claim of parity with human examiners.
You can get a real band before paying anything, and get in for $12
Three writing and three speaking scores on the free tier with real bands and no card, and it does not expire. The detailed feedback is blurred until you upgrade. Paid access starts at $12 once for 15 days, which does not renew, and the $19 month, $39 three month and $59 six month plans renew until cancelled. A banner on every page we fetched carried a promotional code, and the same banner continued with an ebook sale. Promotional codes rotate, so read this as an observation on one dated day rather than a standing discount.

Writing and Speaking are marked by human teachers rather than by software. E2Language describes its markers in its FAQ as "Qualified teachers who are ex-IELTS examiners or experienced IELTS trainers, holding TESOL, CELTA, DELTA or equivalent qualifications.", and a feature list on the same page states more simply that feedback is graded by former IELTS examiners. The 48 hour turnaround is stated twice on the page.

Teacher-marked assessments and one to one tutorials begin at the Bronze package. Express and Express+ include no Writing assessments, no Speaking assessments and no tutorials. Bronze, Silver and Gold include 4, 8 and 12 Writing assessments, 1, 2 and 3 Speaking assessments, and 1, 2 and 3 tutorials. A mock test is included on Express+ and above, but not on Express.

The IELTS FAQ sets out what the free trial does and does not open. It states that "Free access covers the Score Calculator, sample lessons and a live class.", and then names teacher feedback and tutorials as paid. So a visitor cannot have their own Writing or Speaking marked for free.

E2Language publishes a money-back score guarantee that covers only the Bronze, Silver and Gold packages. The FAQ answer reads "Yes. The Score Guarantee covers the Bronze, Silver and Gold IELTS General packages.", the guarantee row of the package table shows a dash on both cheaper tiers, and the row tooltip tells buyers to choose Bronze, Silver or Gold.

The guarantee is named the 30-Day Score Guarantee in E2's Terms of Use, and its conditions are published there. Clause 5.2 requires the buyer to complete the post-registration questions and provide previous exam scores during sign-up, complete all course materials activities and practice tests, all mini mock tests including the speaking appointment, and all assessments and tutorials in the package, then request the refund within 30 days of completing the exam and no more than 30 days from package expiry, with a copy of a score report dated within the last 30 days. Clause 5.1 limits eligibility to packages purchased after 8 November 2023, and clause 5.5 leaves determinations to E2's sole discretion. Outside that guarantee, clause 11.1 states that payments are non-refundable, and E2's separate refund policy page republishes the same wording.

E2Language does not advertise AI marking of a student's own Writing or Speaking anywhere in the visible copy of its IELTS pages. Marking is described as done by human teachers throughout. After stripping scripts and styles, the only mention of AI scoring in visible text across the twelve E2 pages we read describes the PTE exam's own format rather than E2's marking of student work, in an IELTS versus PTE FAQ answer that continues by noting that candidates who prefer a human examiner favour IELTS.

E2Language publishes no accuracy figure, examiner-agreement statistic, error measurement, sample size or validation study for its marking. There is no methodology, research or accuracy page in its sitemap, and the words accuracy, validation, examiner agreement, mean absolute and sample size appear nowhere in the visible text of the twelve pages we read. What it publishes instead is the conditional score guarantee, a statement of its markers' credentials, and a student count.

Questions about accuracy
Is E2Language free?+
There is a free trial, not a free tier. The homepage says "14 days free on any course. No credit card." and the IELTS FAQ sets the scope: free access covers the Score Calculator, sample lessons and a live class, while paid packages open the method lessons, practice tests, mock tests with teacher feedback and one to one tutorials. So you can sit in a class and look around for free, but you cannot have your own Writing or Speaking marked without buying a package. For contrast, our free tier gives three writing and three speaking scores with real bands and no card, does not expire, and blurs the detailed feedback until you upgrade.
How much does E2Language cost?+
On the day we checked, the five IELTS packages were Express at 75.90 USD for 90 days, Express+ at 97.90 USD for 90 days, Bronze at 185.90 USD for 180 days, Silver at 273.90 USD for 270 days and Gold at 394.90 USD for 365 days, each shown with an "Incl. Does a real teacher mark your writing on E2Language?+
Yes, from the Bronze package up. E2 describes its markers as qualified teachers who are ex-IELTS examiners or experienced IELTS trainers holding TESOL, CELTA, DELTA or equivalent qualifications, and says they mark against the official IELTS band descriptors and return feedback within 48 hours. If your budget is tight, or what you need is to write ten essays this week and get each one scored, the arithmetic goes the other way: the cheapest E2 package that includes teacher marking is 185.90 USD for 180 days with 4 Writing assessments, while our paid access starts at $12 once for 15 days and does not renew. Check their current banner before you buy, since a 25% code was running site wide on the day we looked. Also read their guarantee terms first: it covers only Bronze, Silver and Gold, and outside it their terms state that payments are non-refundable.
