A Engnovate alternative, compared honestly
Engnovate is the larger of the two brands people usually compare here, and its pricing model is genuinely friendlier than most: you pay once for a fixed period and nothing renews. If you are weighing a switch, most of the decision comes down to what you want free, and what you want published about how the marking was checked.

What Engnovate does well
This section is here because a comparison written by one side is worth nothing without it. Everything below is something we think they genuinely do well, and in two places better than we do.
- One-time pricing that genuinely does not renew, stated unambiguously. No card on file, nothing to cancel, and the access code does not start counting down until you activate it. That is a better deal than a subscription for most candidates, and we say so.
- Cheap at the long end. The 12-month tier works out at roughly five dollars a month for unlimited evaluations.
- A very large free library, including full-length tests you can sit as a guest without making an account.
- Full four-module coverage, Academic and General Training, including a dedicated General Training Task 1 letter checker.
- Speaking handled per part, with separate tools for Parts 1, 2 and 3 and pronunciation assessed from your recorded audio.
- You can photograph a handwritten essay and have it marked, which matters if you are sitting the paper test.
- It discloses its affiliate relationship on the tutor referral button, which is more disclosure than most sites bother with.
- Bulk licensing for schools, with per-learner activation codes.
Stay with Engnovate if
- You want to pay once, own a fixed window of access, and never think about a renewal date. This is the clearest reason to choose Engnovate and it is a good one.
- You want the largest possible bank of full-length practice tests and are comfortable with where that material comes from.
- You are buying for a class or a school and want activation codes.
Where we are different
A published error figure, with its sample size and its limits
A range of 75 to 95 per cent is a wide range, and without a method or a sample behind it there is no way for you to check it. Ours is one number, re-measured every Saturday against a fixed set, published with the count of essays, the method, and the fact that our reference bands are ours rather than a certified examiner's.
Material we wrote, so we can tell you exactly what it is
Every passage, question, answer and explanation on this site is original. That is why we can publish 81 complete reading tests in full, free, with a written explanation on every question. Real exam passages are copyright, which is the reason most editorial sites cannot publish a complete test.
Your work stays yours
We do not publish anything you submit, on any tier. Privacy is not a feature you buy back.
Named teachers

The accuracy figure, the method behind it and the limits we put on it are all on the scoring accuracy page, updated every Saturday. It is written by Manish Sharma and Anjali Tripathi.
Where these Engnovate facts came from
Each of these was read on Engnovate's own pages on the date shown. Nothing here came from a review site, and nothing came from behind a login, because we did not create an account or pay. If any of it is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
Engnovate Premium is a one-time payment for a fixed access period of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, with no auto-renewal and no card kept on file. The 12-month tier was listed at $61.97.
“All Engnovate plans are one-time payments. You pay once for the duration of your choice (1, 3, 6, or 12 months)”

Questions about accuracy
Is Engnovate accurate?+
Engnovate publishes an accuracy range of 75 to 95 per cent as a standing note on its checker pages. No methodology, sample size, dataset or date accompanies it. It is also worth knowing that a percentage is not a well-formed way to describe band accuracy: a band result needs a tolerance, such as how often it lands within half a band, and a bare percentage does not say within what. We cannot test their scorer, so we make no claim about whether the range is right.
What accuracy figure does BandNine publish instead?+
A mean absolute error in bands, the number of scripts it was measured over, the confidence interval around that number, and a plain statement that the reference scripts were labelled in house rather than by a certified IELTS examiner. It is re-run weekly and published whether it improves or not.
