Common mistakes

Where United Kingdom candidates lose 0.5 bands

Booking the wrong test. UKVI bookings must be at an approved centre, and the receipt explicitly says 'IELTS for UKVI'. A standard IELTS booking is NOT valid for the visa.

Over-preparing for high bands when the Skilled Worker rule asks for B2, which is 5.5 in each skill. Wasted prep time and money on retake fees.

Speaking Part 2 silence. UK candidates often pause too long for the 2-minute monologue. Examiners count silence against fluency.
